Kermit’s Bake Shoppe Celebrates Chinese New Year with General Tso’s Pizza

Kermit’s Bake Shoppe, the bakery and pizzeria on Washington Avenue in Philadelphia, is celebrating the Lunar New Year (aka Chinese New Year) with a special pizza addition to their menu–General Tso’s Chicken Pizza. The 18-inch pizza, created by Chef Brian Lofink features:

  • Whole milk mozzarella
  • A sauce of hoisin, ginger, shallot, Thai chili and a little orange zest
  • Rice wine-marinated chicken, twice fried
  • Carrots, red bell peppers and broccoli toppings in addition to the chicken
  • Finished with sriracha and scallion
  • White wheat crust

Food is central to all Chinese festivals, but sugary snacks are especially important for Lunar New Year, since “they sweeten up prospects for the coming year.” Be sure to check out Kermit’s fully-stocked line of fresh pastries, cakes and candies, also available for delivery. Lunar New Year lasts 15 days, starting Friday, Jan. 31, and ending on Valentine’s Day. The General Tso’s Pizza will be available for $20 for the entire time.
